Arvada Fire maintains nine active fire stations throughout approximately 43 square miles in the City of Arvada, the northern portion of the City of Wheat Ridge, and portions of unincorporated Jefferson County.
We have nearly 200 employees who serve approximately 133,000 citizens. We proudly serve our citizens and each other with dedication, integrity, compassion, courage, and respect. Arvada Fire is a special district formed in 1949 and governed by a five-member board of directors elected by voters.
Line personnel work a 48/96 shift schedule which consists of two consecutive 24-hour shifts on-duty followed by four days off. Our members provide the citizens of our district with world-class fire suppression, life safety, and emergency medical services. Additionally, Arvada Fire has the following specialty teams that respond to specific emergencies:
- Hazardous Materials
- Technical Rescue
- Water and Ice Rescue
- Wildland Response
Arvada Fire is internationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and has been awarded a Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC) from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). We are one of eight agencies in Colorado and 113 nationally with accreditation and an ISO Class 1 rating.

Minimum Firefighter Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 18 years of age
- Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
- State of Colorado EMT -OR-
- State of Colorado or National Registry Paramedic Certification
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, criminal history review, medical evaluation (NFPA 1582 Standard), psychological screening, MVR review and drug screen.

Firefighter Entry Test
Take the FireTEAM exam through the National Testing Network OR sign up for the next Colorado FIREfighter Testing Consortium test. The consortium entry test has gone virtual and upcoming tests are available to be scheduled. If you already applied for a test, you will be notified of your test date and time from IO Solutions after your application has been verified.
After you have taken one of these tests, you may be invited to apply when our next hiring process begins.
