Grand Opening Set for Station 9

The facade of Station 9 nearing the completion of its construction.

The public is invited to help celebrate and dedicate Arvada Fire’s new Station 9 during an open house ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. The 12,128-square-foot station is located at 9276 Wilkerson Court, near Highway 72 and Candelas Parkway.

The open house ceremony will include dedication speeches, presentations from the Honor Guard and Pipes and Drums Band, a bell ceremony and house uncoupling, and drinks and refreshments within the apparatus bay.

Arvada Fire broke ground on the new station in April of 2021, envisioning a fire station that embraced modern features and safety improvement, honored tradition and met the current and future needs of both its firefighters and community. Station 9 will be the first new station in the district in over 43 years.

With an exterior to match the Candelas area, the internal features of the building were designed to serve the needs of a modern fire department. The Station was designed by Allred & Associates Architects and built by Golden Triangle Construction.

Some exciting design aspects of the fire station include:

  • Features that allow firefighters to practice rescue techniques and deploy ladders for training purposes on the interior of the building
  • A 40-kilowatt rooftop photovoltaic (PV solar) system to reduce the carbon footprint, energy use and electrical costs of the building
  • A decontamination corridor designed for cleaning and disinfecting contaminated tools and equipment
  • Specialized air handling and exhaust systems to help ensure firefighters' health and safety while living and working in the building
  • New alert systems that incorporate nighttime lighting and audible alerts to reduce physiological and stress impacts for responders during nighttime emergency responses
  • A 1,127-square-foot firehouse gym to encourage firefighter fitness and wellness, including a balance of equipment to improve strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness
  • 8 individual bunk rooms as well as collaborative group areas
